Eiteljorg Museum

Indy has been in close linkage with politics after it was selected to be Indiana’s government seat in the 1820s. However, as time went by, the city was considered the busiest railroad hub not to mention how rich in culture the city is. As of the census 2010, the city had a total population of 820,445 citizens, and the population increased to 876,384 citizens in 2019. Indy spans 367 square miles, where only 6 square miles are covered by water. With that said, it could help if you knew that there are many attractive points in Indy and among them is the Eiteljorg Museum.

The Eiteljorg Museum is a classic museum in Indianapolis which is sometimes referred to as the museum of American Indians. The museum usually opens at 10 AM, and its address is 500 W Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46204, USA. Strategically located in downtown Indianapolis, the Eiteljorg museum was opened in 1989, and it is popular because of its artifacts. Upon visiting the museum, you will get exposed to vast collections of visual arts done by natives from America, not to forget those obtained from Western American paintings and other sculptures collected by a philanthropist and businessperson called Eiteljorg Harrison.

The museum of Eiteljorg is located at 39 46’06″N 86 10’4”W. The museum is popular because it houses one of the best collections involving Native contemporary art in the universe. It could help if you knew that currently, the museum forms part of the larger Indianapolis’s White River State Park that is also home to the neighboring Indiana State Museum. This museum is where you will find the Gund Gallery, equipped with incredible collections of bronzes and paintings obtained by Remington Fredrick and Russell Charles.

There are also some other paintings collected by Albert Bierstadt, George Winter, and Thomas Hill. There is also a separate room with a variety of collection paintings obtained from New Mexico associated painters like William Victor Higgins, John French Sloan, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Joseph Henry Sharp. However, it was not until June 2005 when the museum decided to open a large expansion which led to an increased public space since they added a Sky City Café, new galleries, and an education center.

Design of the Museum

The museum is also designed with incredible outdoor gardens and ample event space. The added galleries include two exemplary galleries dedicated to the institute’s contemporary art collection. These collections include works done by Andy Warhol and Kay WalkingStick, among other artists. The other additional gallery acts as an expansion of the Gund Gallery of Western Art. It is dedicated to the 57-piece collection from traditional Western art given by the George Gund Family. Eiteljorg Museum is indeed a hidden treasure in Indy.

The museum is great, and once you visit it, you will not hesitate to come back. There are several paintings in the museum, and it is up to you to choose the best painting. Assuming that you happen to visit the museum with your children, be assured that they will have a great time at the museum as they make memories.
