Lancaster is the capital City of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. With a population of 59,265, it is the 8th largest city in Pennsylvania. And it is the 512th largest city in the US. A few years later, the city was raised to the status of a city in 1812. Officially, the symbol of Lancaster is the red rose. It is the insignia of the Lancaster branch of House Plantagenet. Historically, the city was the capital of the US for one day on September 27, 1777, during the American independence war. Also, it served as the capital of Pennsylvania from 1799 to 1812. Lancaster was one of the winners of the All-American City award in 2000. Since 2011, the city has celebrated the 27th of September as Capital day, commemorating their brief tenure as US capital in 1777.
