The park was established in 1929, and it was not until 1999 when the fire tower in the forest was added to the National Register of Historic Places after it was considered no longer in use.

In this forest, you will find the FLUXNET tower used to measure heat levels, water, and carbon dioxide in this incredibly mixed hardwood ecosystem. Currently, the tower is under maintenance by the University’s Department of Geography in Indiana. There are plenty of recreational activities on the farm, and some include the four hiking trails.
Additionally, upon visiting the forest, you are allowed to practice hunting raccoons, turkeys, deer, squirrels, foxes, and ruffed grouse, among other wild animals.
