This park is considered the oldest park in Indiana as it was dedicated on July 4, 1916. It was dedicated to celebrating the state’s centennial celebration. About the Park
The park was named in honor of the region’s first settler, John McCormick, who lived on 100 acres around 1816. This piece of land was located along the canyon close to the waterfalls. Up to that period, the Miami Indians were in dire need of the land. The main attraction point in this park is McCormick’s Creek Falls. It was not until May 12, 1916, when a famous newspaper editor suggested that the McCormick’s Creek area could make a good state park.
This information was given to the Indiana state legislator. The idea was then spearheaded by Richard Lieber, who was an Indianapolis businessman of German origin. The businessman won the auction bid that went at $5,250, given by Dr. Fredrick Denkewalter estate. McCormick’s Creek was first opened on December 11, 1916, which is Indiana’s centennial birthday. However, it was not until 1927 when a naturalist program was initiated, which was the first for Indiana, and the U. S. much of the park’s infrastructure was done by the Civilian.

For instance, there is a 27 meters fire tower, a small cave, towering stands made from second-growth Midwestern hardwoods, sinkhole formations, and a scenic waterfall and ravine. There are also fine systems of equestrian paths featured in the park.
There is also the Canyon Inn in the park, which was a sanitarium initially, and now it hosts guests overnight. The inn is characterized by a spacious swimming pool and an option for overnight camping. It is quite an incredible place to make lifetime memories.
